How Do The Kids In Your Life See You?

Author: cinmic

HorseBoyMichael and I were having a conversation the other day about the ability to see yourself through someone elses’ eyes and he asked me a question that caught me off guard.   His question was “How do your kids see you?

Honestly, I hadn’t given that much thought.  My daughters are 17 and 20 and in the midst of working, trying to set a good example, teaching them right from wrong,  celebrating their joys and and doing my best to help them through the difficult parts of life…I just didn’t ever ask myself that question.  I’m not one to ‘sit still’ very long and I had really never slowed down and actually asked them that question.  Do they see me as warm?   Loving?  Am I fun?  Stubborn?  Creative?  Helpful?  Am I too busy?   Scattered?  Stressed?    So….I asked them and their answers were both heartfelt and honest and I was so glad I asked (and it wasn’t because they gave me all the answers I wanted or expected).   Their answers gave me a new perspective and outlook on how I am being, a new awareness of how I look through their eyes and it was an incredible experience.   And, that conversation helped them think about how others see them.   321508_2617145838506_1700852059_n

And then I wondered….how many of you have asked YOUR kids that question?

We work with such a diverse group of children and youth through ICS so naturally I found myself wondering….how do our Slicker Kids see their parents, guardians, teachers, pastors?     How do they see people who live in their communities?

I love the new perspective and outlook this simple yet phenomenal question has given me!

So…..How Do The Kids In Your Life See You?
