THE COWBOY WAY – ICS

The cowboy way is a guide to life. It is the code of the Old West that seems to be missing in today’s society – Kindness, hard work, responsibility and perseverance. When I was growing up, our heroes were Cowboys: Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and The Lone Ranger. These heroes had their own way of looking at life, but their was the common thread that if followed made YOUR life Better.

The Lone Ranger’s code of conduct:

I believe…..
That to have a friend, a man must be one. That all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world.
That God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself.
In being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for that which is right.
That a man should make the most of what equipment he has.
That ‘this government of the people, by the people, and for the people’ shall live always.
That men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number.
That sooner or later…somewhere…somehow…we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken.
That all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever.
In my Creator, my country, my fellow man.GENE AUTRY’s code of conduct:The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage.
He must never go back on his word, or a trust confided in him.
He must always tell the truth.
He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals.
He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.
He must help people in distress.
He must be a good worker.
He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits.
He must respect women, parents, and his nation’s laws.
The Cowboy is a patriotWe don’t find that type of thinking in the world that we live in. It’s all about “Me”, What can you do for me, How does that help me? Life now is technology, the cool gadgets, talking without communicating. There is a lack of real involvement and participation in the lives of kids and families as a hole. Kids are raised by the world, not their parents. Families disintegrate because of it.So as you can see The Cowboy Way is a Way of Life…a moral compass. It is about being of service. Putting other folks first. And as you embrace this philosophy you become a better person and others beneift also. In my ICS program I often say that the “We save the horses ,Horses save the Kids, the Kids save Us – Families are rehabilitated, Everyone wins”.
